Full Review

The Lord of the Rings is a 243 ways to win online slot game. Like symbols have to appear in successive reels in any position starting from left to right in order to pay out. The player can wager up to 20 coins per payline. The total number of coins wagered per spin is 30 times the number of coins per payline. The coin size has to be chosen from 0.01, 0.02 and 0.05. The Lord of the Rings logo is the wild symbol and it appears stacked on the reels. It also offers the highest line payout of 400 coins when five symbols appear, one in each reel. The other high paying symbols are characters from the movie. They include Frodo Baggins - the hero of the saga, Aragorn, Bilbo, Arwen, Legolas, Lord Elrond, Lady Galadriel and Gimli. The fans of the movie would recognize them instantly. The ring is the scatter symbol. It offers scatter payouts when two or more appear on the reels. The high value card symbols are also appropriately crafted.

The defining feature of The Lord of the Rings is Cinematic Spins. It does not award payouts but it is a visual treat. The reels disappear for some time after the spin is activated and in their place video clips from the movie are run across the full playing area. Some of the scenes that fans of the movie will enjoy are Ringwraiths during the attack at Weathertop, Balrog in the Mines of Moria and Uruk-hai in the woods of Middle-earth. Three or more scattered ring symbols appearing on the reels trigger 15 free spins starting at a multiplier of 2x. The free spins cannot be retriggered. One of the features introduced in the revamp is the Gollium feature. Gollium is one of the characters from the movie. He can randomly appear outside the reels and award the player a prize. This can happen during the base game and the free spins.

In the revamp, The Lord of the Rings was converted to a progressive jackpot. As a result players who had enjoyed this game for free were cut off. But it was a boon for the real money players. The progressive jackpots are won through a randomly triggered bonus game. Larger wagers increase the chance of the bonus game being triggered. Players have to spin a jackpot wheel and are assured that they will win one of the four progressive jackpots. The smallest jackpot is the Bronze Progressive and it starts at 10.00. The next one is the Silver Progressive that starts at 100.00. The Gold Progressive starts at 10,000.00. The big one is the Mithril Progressive that resets at 1,000,000.00.

The Microgaming software offers features like Expert Mode that includes an Auto Play. Then there are customization options, game statistics and a comprehensive Help file.
